I have been approved and am ready to sign the contract, what’s next?:
Esplendor Havanese requires a contract upon approval of your puppy application and our receipt of your retainer deposit. The best place to do this is on www.gooddog.com Once you get to Good Dog, search for ESPLENDOR HAVANESE. You will see the available pups and prices. We are a small breeder. We only have a couple of litters a year. ALL of our breeding Havanese (Reina, Daisy and Rufus for now) have passed their OFFA tests for Cardiac, Patellas, and eyes. Their preliminary xrays for hips/lcp look good. We finalize those this month. You are not getting a “back-yard-breeder” puppy. These moms and dad were hand picked from very good kennels with an excellent health record, and winning Champion and Grand Champion lines. Reina’s Offspring will be shown, and we plan to pick from Daisy’s litter as well, to show in the US.
Please make sure your application has been approved, and that we have agreed on which puppy you are buying before filling out the contract.
We have a pdf version for you to download and print to mail in. For the more tech savvy we have an E-contract. Both are below. If you have any trouble accessing the necessary paperwork, please call 253-229-6470 and we will help you.
I’ve heard about dog vitamins, what are NuVet Vitamin Supplements?
As part of Esplendor Havanese contract & Health Guarantee, we do REQUIRE the puppy to be on NuVet Plus Vitamins for the first 12 months of life. We utilize PAT, the Volhard Puppy Aptitude Test
PAT uses a scoring system from 1-6 and consists of ten tests. The tests are done consecutively and in the order listed. Each test is scored separately, and interpreted on its own merits. The scores are not averaged, and there are no winners or losers. The entire purpose is to select the right puppy for the right home. Ask us how your puppy scored!
The test are as follows:
• Social Attraction – degree of social attraction to people, confidence or dependence.
• Following – willingness to follow a person.
• Restraint – degree of dominant or submissive tendency, and ease of handling in difficult situations.
• Social Dominance – degree of acceptance of social dominance by a person.
• Elevation – degree of accepting dominance while in a position of no control, such as at the veterinarian or groomer.
• Retrieving – degree of willingness to do something for you. Together with Social Attraction and Following a key indicator for ease or difficulty in training.
• Touch Sensitivity – degree of sensitivity to touch and a key indicator to the type of training equipment required.
• Sound Sensitivity – degree of sensitivity to sound, such as loud noises or thunderstorms.
• Sight Sensitivity – degree of response to a moving object, such as chasing bicycles, children or squirrels.
• Stability – degree of startle response to a strange object.
During the testing make a note of the heart rate of the pup, which is an indication of how it deals with stress, as well as its energy level. Puppies come with high, medium or low energy levels. You have to decide for yourself, which suits your life style. Dogs with high energy levels need a great deal of exercise, and will get into mischief if this energy is not channeled into the right direction.
We apply the Biosensor Routine. What is that?
The importance of early puppy handling cannot be stressed enough, which is why many breeders of the top-performing dogs today use a system known as the Biosensor Routine.
The Routine was discovered by the U.S. military during wartime and instituted into the country’s military canine training program. Dogs that were handled using the biosensor routine were found to outperform littermates that were not handled using the biosensor routine in high-intensity situations. Not only did they out-perform, but they were also found to have an increased tolerance to stress, stronger immune systems, stronger heart rates and breathing rates, stronger nervous systems, and better and more consistent temperaments. They were also found to have longer life spans being used as service dogs later into life than their unexposed siblings.
